Multi-Factor Authentication
A Stronger, Safer @ccessUS system
MFA Instructions
For several years, USFCU has utilized a security feature within our online home banking system called Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). During our recent data conversion it was necessary to temporarily discontinue this feature until the conversion process was completed. We are now ready to implement this security feature again.
What is Multi-Factor Authentication?
Multi-Factor Authentication is a security feature that works 24/7 to protect your @ccessUS account, even when you are not online. MFA helps guard against fraudulent logon attempts like “Phishing” (malicious requests for your personal information) and identity theft. MFA also monitors your account for uncharacteristic or unusual activity. If any activity appears to be out of the ordinary, any individual attempting to logon to your account will be prompted to verify their identity.
How does Multi-Factor Authentication work?
Once activated, MFA looks at the computer(s) you are using to access your account and stores that computer’s information. If the system does not recognize your computer(s) during a future logon attempt, MFA will take additional steps to verify your identity, by asking you challenge questions that you have chosen or selected. An example of a challenge question might be – What is your pet’s name?
When will Multi-Factor Authentication go into affect?
The MFA implementation will begin on June 16, 2008 and will take approximately 12 weeks to complete. During the first 4 weeks, you will be prompted to change your Account Number to a Username. When prompted, the user must click on the “No username? Click here” link to setup a new username to access their account. At a later date (from June 16th through August 27, 2008) you will be prompted to select your challenge questions. Because members will be randomly selected, we have no way of knowing who or when you will be asked to set up your challenge questions.
By September 10, 2008 all @ccessUS users will have set up their username and challenge questions. From this point forward, any suspicious activity will prompt the system to begin asking the security questions.
